If you need to surrender an animal

Please allow us to try to talk you out of surrendering an animal to us. Getting an animal is a lifelong commitment. Every avenue should be explored for keeping the animal in the home it is used to, unless of course it's an abusive home.

If you absolutely cannot keep the animal, please exhaust every possibility for placing the animal yourself. This way you'll be able to check the new home yourself and make sure it meets your standards.

Third, we suggest surrendering to the Nevada Humane Society, 2825 Longley Lane in Reno. They are a no-kill shelter, meaning they don't put down any healthy, adoptable animals. They will likely be able to place the animal, perhaps even to us at CockadoodleMoo.

If these avenues have been tried, by all means, give us a shot. The reason we're trying to discourage you is that, as a rescue, we can find ourselves faced with taking in an animal because there is simply no other choice. With only two of us at the sanctuary and working full-time outside jobs, we're often working at our limit so the priority goes to animals who would die without our help. All this said, we are a sanctuary and if we accept your animal, we will give him or her the best possible life we can, with lots of room to play, love, interaction, good food and lifetime medical care. (If you're willing and able to provide for future care, this will approve chances for acceptance.)
