For pellet food, seed and grains, you need metal trash cans with lids. A medium-sized can will hold a little more than 100 pounds of feed. Most heavy-duty plastic containers will be chewed through by rodents. If the metal lids won't stay on tightly, put a heavy rock or brick atop them to keep animals from pulling them off. Some places find a rodent-proof shed necessary for storing grains if they need to store lots of bags in the open.
